There is plenty of guidance for getting started using Microsoft Teams, but how should administrators prepare for a successful rollout? What if you’ve already started using Teams and are realizing the administrative needs?  Without proper preparation and understanding, Teams (and Office 365 Groups) can become the wild west and leave you wondering how to dig out of a mess. This session will explore a variety of administration and governance topics that will lead you on the path to a healthy environment and prevent things from getting out of control.

Jeremy is an Enterprise Architect and Microsoft MVP focused on designing secure and scalable solutions. He has a broad background in designing and supporting both cloud and on-premises systems. Jeremy’s past experiences include working with Microsoft technologies in complex environments ranging from hospitality to EDU to multi-national manufacturing companies ranging from 300 – 750,000 users. Ashley McKenzie, a Senior Account Executive at Adobe Systems, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio will be joining CKYMUG to discuss the topic of diversity in Information Technology including what Adobe is doing to create a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Ashley McKenzie is a Senior Account Executive at Adobe Systems, Inc., and a strong supporter of women & diversity in technology.  She previously spent six and a half years working as a Client Representative at IBM.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Strategic Communications from the University of Kentucky, and her Master’s degree in Business Informatics from Northern Kentucky University.  Ashley has also been a “Big Sister” in Big Brother/Big Sisters of the Bluegrass for over 11 years, and advocates for more “Big Sisters” to become part of the program.  She lives in Walton, Kentucky with her husband Sheldon, her three daughters, Izzy, Mia, and Laila, and her dog Dobby.

PowerShell has been around in some form since 2005, but it was only with SharePoint Server 2010 that PowerShell became an official part of the SharePoint administrative landscape. Nowadays, PowerShell is the preferred mechanism for administrative management of SharePoint farms, both on-premises and in the cloud with SharePoint Online. In this session, we’ll be taking a more advanced look at PowerShell and how it can be used to execute and script administrative actions for SharePoint. We’ll look at some common SharePoint activities that are carried-out through PowerShell, as well as some of the newer PowerShell capabilities like desired state configuration (DSC). We’ll also look at some PowerShell watch-outs including some behaviors that can sometimes cause trouble with SharePoint. Administrators and developers alike will leave this session with a variety of concepts and script samples that can be used to immediately improve operations within their own SharePoint environments.

1. A review of baseline PowerShell operations, concepts, and SharePoint cmdlets

He likes nuts-and-bolts work like SharePoint farm and Office 365 administration, but he also enjoys creating the business process and people conditions necessary for effective implementations. With an emphasis on the big picture, Matt is at his best when working with employee groups and teams, helping them find hidden value in the processes and digital artifacts they thought they knew. How many of you know what User Profiles can do?  When I typically ask that question I get responses such as: It connects to Active Directory so that properties can be synced into SharePoint so we can use that info (but not sure how), or the most popular, we can add pictures to our profile and other information that others can see.  Both of those answers are true but only scratch the surface of what User Profiles can do in SharePoint and most importantly for your organization. I could talk for hours about all the great things that User Profiles can do, but, in addition to talking about it I’m going to show you all the things that a User Profile can do and how the functionality can improve meeting preparation, company bonding and getting to know more about the organization you work for.  I won’t stop there either as we will also venture down the path of application integration and how it can streamline processes and limit human error in day to day processes.  With the user of User Profiles you can be on your way to building that one stop shop for company information.
