He then obtained his M.S. in Applied Engineering and Technology Management with a concentration in cyber security. Currently, Zach has been focused on driving organizational improvement by utilizing tools such as Power BI, SQL, and cloud-based solutions like Azure Data Factory and Azure Automation to facilitate better business decisions with meaningful data. Zach was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but has been living in the Central Kentucky area for the last two decades.

In today’s IT landscape, the threat model is constantly changing and drastically. The theft of data for purposes of accessing personal customer information is no longer the main driving motivation of bad actors – they are turning to threads aimed at large financial gain. In addition to attacks aimed at holding data for ransom, attacks can also be founded in political activism with the distinct purpose of data destruction in order to interrupt or destroy business. Join us to learn about these threats and how you can increase the probability of recovering your most critical business data in light of these new threat models.

PowerShell has been around in some form since 2005, but it was only with SharePoint Server 2010 that PowerShell became an official part of the SharePoint administrative landscape. Nowadays, PowerShell is the preferred mechanism for administrative management of SharePoint farms, both on-premises and in the cloud with SharePoint Online. In this session, we’ll be taking a more advanced look at PowerShell and how it can be used to execute and script administrative actions for SharePoint. We’ll look at some common SharePoint activities that are carried-out through PowerShell, as well as some of the newer PowerShell capabilities like desired state configuration (DSC). We’ll also look at some PowerShell watch-outs including some behaviors that can sometimes cause trouble with SharePoint. Administrators and developers alike will leave this session with a variety of concepts and script samples that can be used to immediately improve operations within their own SharePoint environments.

How many of you know what User Profiles can do?  When I typically ask that question I get responses such as: It connects to Active Directory so that properties can be synced into SharePoint so we can use that info (but not sure how), or the most popular, we can add pictures to our profile and other information that others can see.  Both of those answers are true but only scratch the surface of what User Profiles can do in SharePoint and most importantly for your organization. I could talk for hours about all the great things that User Profiles can do, but, in addition to talking about it I’m going to show you all the things that a User Profile can do and how the functionality can improve meeting preparation, company bonding and getting to know more about the organization you work for.  I won’t stop there either as we will also venture down the path of application integration and how it can streamline processes and limit human error in day to day processes.  With the user of User Profiles you can be on your way to building that one stop shop for company information.
